Active Travel

We are proud to be an Active Travel School.  Over 2024/25 we have retained our Good level Modeshift STARS accreditation.

Other Travel Initiatives

In the past year, Highfield School and its team of Junior Travel Ambassadors have carried out a variety of initiatives to encourage active travel amongst our children and staff, including:

  • Travel counts outside the Junior and Infant Departments
  • Active travel raffle
  • Active travel kit sale, where children could buy water bottles, bike reflectors, high-vis jackets and more!
  • Travel stall at the Summer fête, where children could win prizes and parents signed active travel promise statements
  • Participation in the city's Clean Air Challenge. One child from Highfield was the overall winner in the city whilst another was a runner up. Highfield also won the staff prize of some trees for the junior playground by entering pictures of teachers and teaching assistants on a clean air walk!
  • Participation in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel travel count in March-April 2025.
  • Year 5 Bikeability training delivered by Pedal Power.
  • Year R balance bike training delivered by class teachers.

We also use Wow Tracker in our junior department to record how children get to school. The class with the most active journeys in a week is celebrated in Friday's assembly!
