Shape hunting

This week we spent time outside looking for shapes in our environment...

The children very quickly realised that shapes are all around us!  Both Willow and Oak Base were very enthusiastic about shape hunting and estimated that we would find "hundreds of shapes".  They remembered some of the different properties of shapes that we had talked about when shape stacking, and used the language when hunting.

"This one has 4 sides but they're not the same so it is a rectangle, not a square".

"It's a triangle because it's got 3 sides!"

Some children even noticed the church spire peeking out from over the trees looked like a triangle and added that on their tick tally!
