Sound trip!

Year 3/4 trip to the Southampton University Sound Department

To deepen our science learning on sound this year, the children had the fantastic opportunity to visit the sound department at the university. It was an unforgettable experience exploring the different rooms specially designed to show how sound behaves.

One of the highlights was stepping into the incredible “cheese sponge” rooms, where sound seemed to disappear completely – the children were amazed by how strangely quiet it felt. They were equally fascinated by the room filled with speakers that transported us into a jungle, with animal noises surrounding us from every direction. It truly felt like we were standing in the middle of a rainforest.

It was a brilliant trip, full of curiosity, excitement, and hands-on learning. We came away buzzing with new knowledge and a deeper understanding of how sound works!
