Location 1: Junior site, Hawthorn Road, Southampton, SO17 1PX
Location 2: Infant site, Church Lane, Southampton, SO17 1SY
Contract Type: 37 Hours per week, Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Split Shift as follows: Monday to Thursday: 7:30 – 11:30 am and 2:30 – 6:00 pm.
Friday 7:30 – 11:30 am and 2:30 – 5:30 pm (Hours negotiable)
Salary Range: SCC Grade 6 - £28,792 - £31,022 depending on experience
Start Date: January 2026 (Or sooner if available)

Are you a proactive, hands-on professional who takes pride in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-run school environment?  Highfield CE Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Site Manager to join our dedicated team and help ensure that both of our school sites run smoothly and safely.  

About the Role

As Site Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and security of our two school sites. You’ll ensure the buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and well maintained—creating a positive, inspiring environment for our pupils and staff.

You’ll also play an important role in the life of our school community. Often the first friendly face that pupils, parents and visitors may see in the morning, you’ll help set the tone for the day, taking pride in making our school a warm and welcoming place for everyone. 

Under the guidance of the Headteacher and Business Manager, your duties will include:

  • Managing site security, access, and keyholding responsibilities across both sites, including out of hours emergency key holder
  • Overseeing cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping activities, including keeping borders tidy.
  • Operation of light machinery eg leaf blower, jet wash, strimmer
  • Monitoring contractors and ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations, including testing of fire and intruder alarms and associated equipment
  • Carrying out minor repairs and decorating (e.g. painting, plumbing, carpentry)
  • Setting up and clearing away furniture for events eg assemblies
  • Managing the cleaning team
  • Managing resources 
  • Transporting resources between school sites (using own transport)

This is a split-shift role, with hours negotiable for the right candidate. A degree of flexibility will be required to meet the needs of both sites.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in site or premises management (school or similar setting preferred)
  • Understands health & safety, COSHH, and safeguarding requirements
  • Has strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Holds good IT skills and is able to manage documents efficiently
  • Can work flexibly, independently, and as part of a supportive team
  • Takes pride in keeping facilities safe, clean, and well-presented

Local and on-site training will be provided for the right candidate, so enthusiasm, reliability, and a can-do attitude are just as important as experience.
