Easter is a happy time.

In RE our current concept for investigation is ‘suffering’. Today we have been discussing the statement: Easter is a happy time. There are some ways in which we agree with the statement and other ways where we disagree. Below are North America’s thoughts on the statement.

There are many reasons as to why people disagree. Firstly, there were many people who suffered: Jesus, the thieves, Mary, Jesus’ family, his friends and God. In addition, people feel that Jesus was treated unfairly and did not deserve to be put on the cross. For example, Pilate did not want to kill Jesus; the crowd persuaded him to.

Alternatively, you can also argue that Easter is a happy time. Easter is a happy time because it symbolises new life and re-birth. Jesus gave his life for us. His life was given so that humans’ sins can be forgiven. It says in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” It is also important that we remember that the Easter story includes news of Jesus’ resurrection and ascension to heaven – both cause for celebration.
