Airport Security, Pilot training…all linked to forces and magnets!

The children had fun with forces and magnets on Monday during our Science day! They experimented with cars (pretend little ones!) on their approach to the airport, and learnt about the forces acting on them, and how different surfaces cause varying degrees of friction. They were involved with the airport security team, and Police, as they helped in the sorting of items left behind by passengers, and sorted these based upon whether they were magnetic/not magnetic. They also learnt about magnetic fields, and experimented to order objects based upon the strength of these fields. Finally, the children were involved in ‘Pilot training’, whereby they learnt further about the poles of magnets and put cockpit items back together based upon the magnetism and draw of the poles.
A super day of learning, and there are some scientists in the making in yr3/4!!
